Pediatric Pelvic Health
Pediatric Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy in Milton
Bedwetting. Daytime accidents. Constipation that will not resolve. These are not problems your child will simply “grow out of” — and they do not have to just live with them.
Priyanka is certified in Pediatric Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy and works with children in a gentle, age-appropriate way. No internal exams. No pressure. Just patient, effective care that helps your child feel better and more confident.
Why pediatric pelvic physiotherapy matters
Children with pelvic health concerns often feel embarrassed or isolated. Sleepovers become stressful. School days are interrupted. Parents try everything — limiting fluids, waking children at night, setting timers — but without addressing the underlying pelvic floor coordination, the pattern continues.
Pediatric pelvic physiotherapy works because it treats the root cause: muscles that are not coordinating properly, bladder habits that have developed over time, or bowel patterns that need retraining. With the right guidance, children respond remarkably well.
Milton Pelvic Physiotherapy is one of the few clinics in Milton offering certified pediatric pelvic floor physiotherapy. This is not a general physio clinic that sees children on the side — Priyanka has specialized training specifically in this area.
Conditions we treat in children
Every child is different. We tailor our approach to your child's age, personality, and comfort level.
Bedwetting (Nocturnal Enuresis)
Nighttime wetting beyond age 5 or 6 is more common than most families realize. Pelvic physiotherapy addresses the underlying muscle coordination and bladder habits that contribute to bedwetting — without shame or blame.
Daytime Accidents
Leaking during the day, urgency that comes on suddenly, or not making it to the bathroom in time. These are often signs of pelvic floor muscle imbalance or bladder habits that can be retrained with the right approach.
Constipation
Chronic constipation in children often involves pelvic floor muscles that are not coordinating properly. When the muscles tighten instead of relaxing during a bowel movement, stool gets held back. We teach children how to relax and coordinate these muscles effectively.
Fecal Soiling (Encopresis)
Soiling accidents are often linked to chronic constipation and overflow. Treatment focuses on bowel management, muscle retraining, and rebuilding healthy toilet habits in a supportive, age-appropriate way.
Pediatric Pelvic Pain
Some children experience pain in the pelvic region, during urination, or with bowel movements. We take a gentle, thorough approach to identify the cause and provide relief through education, exercises, and behavioral strategies.
Urinary Frequency and Urgency
Going to the bathroom excessively or feeling the need to go urgently and often can disrupt a child's school day and social life. Bladder retraining and pelvic floor exercises help restore normal patterns.
What to expect at your child's first visit
A conversation with you and your child
We start by talking — with the parent and with the child. We want to understand the history, what has been tried, and how the symptoms are affecting daily life. We keep the language simple and the tone relaxed.
Gentle, external assessment
Assessment may include observing posture, breathing, and movement patterns. We may gently assess the abdomen. There is no internal exam for children. Everything is explained before it happens, and your child is in control.
A clear plan for the whole family
We provide exercises and strategies that are age-appropriate and easy to incorporate into your child's routine. Parents are involved throughout — you will know exactly what to do at home.
Common questions from parents
What age can children start pelvic physiotherapy?+
We typically work with children aged 5 and older, though this depends on the child's ability to follow instructions and participate in exercises. For younger children, we focus on parent education and behavioral strategies.
Is there an internal exam for children?+
No. Pediatric pelvic physiotherapy does not involve internal examination. Assessment is external and age-appropriate, using observation, gentle palpation of the abdomen, and functional testing.
Will my child need to miss school?+
Our Milton clinic is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 7pm, so after-school and after-work appointments are available. Most children need visits every 1 to 2 weeks initially.
How many sessions will my child need?+
It varies depending on the condition and how long it has been present. Many families see improvement within 4 to 8 sessions. Bedwetting may take longer as nighttime dryness often develops gradually.
Should I talk to my child's doctor first?+
A referral is not required, but it can be helpful to rule out medical causes. If your child's pediatrician or family doctor has already investigated and found no underlying medical issue, pelvic physiotherapy is an excellent next step.
Is pediatric pelvic physiotherapy covered by insurance?+
Yes. It is billed as physiotherapy and is covered by most extended health plans. Direct billing is available so you pay nothing out of pocket at the time of your visit.
